Benefit of Omega-3 Fish Oil
In the past 10 years, many Americans have turned to omega-3 fish oil supplements. It is believed that Omega-3 fish oil contains both docosahexaenoci acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which have benefits for healthy people and also those with heart disease. The benefit of omega-3 fish oil may help to lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, slow the development of plaques in the arteries, reduce the chance of abnormal heart rhythm, reduce the likehood of heart attack and stroke and may lessen the chance of sudden cardiac death in people with heart disease.
Women sometimes take fish oil to prevent painful periods; breast pain; and complications associated with pregnancy such as miscarriage, high blood pressure late in pregnancy, and early delivery.
American Heart Association (AHA) suggests:
1) Eat a variety of fish (preferably fatty fish) at least twice a week.
2) If you have heart disease, take 1 gram of omega-3 fish oil diet fish or supplements daily.
3) If you have high triglycerides, take 2 to 4 grams of omega-3 fish oil a day. (in consultation with your doctor)
