Mallotus philippensis in G-Herb also known as Kamala or Red Kamala are shrubs or small fruit trees which grow on mountain slopes or valleys, limestone hills and forests at an altitude of 300–1600 m in Asia, Afghanistan and Australia south of Sydney. Different parts of the plant have been used to treat skin irritation, ringworm, and freckle in traditional medicine.



M. philippensis possesses anti-allergic properties and is bactericidal for chemoresistant Helicobacter pylori strains. The stem bark of M. philippensis contains 3 α-hydroxy-D:a-friedoolean-an-2-one which is toxic for tumor cells. In addition, M. philippensis root extract possesses anti-leukemic activity.
